USA Hockey and the Concussion Legacy Foundation have teamed up to raise concussion awareness and strengthen team bonds through Team Up Speak Up.
The goal of Team Up Speak Up is for as many athletes as possible to hear a simple speech. The core message: athletes have a responsibility to tell a team leader if they notice concussions signs in a teammate.
Nate Leaman, head coach of the 2021 U.S. National Junior Team, gives the speech to the team and talks about the importance of looking out for your teammates' health.
The Team Up Speak Up Speech should come from a coach or team leader and can be given at any time.
The Speech
We're a team, and teammates look out for each other. A teammate with a concussion needs your help. I expect you to SPEAK UP to a coach or athletic trainer if you think a teammate has a concussion.
Spread The Word
Throughout the week, players and coaches are encouraged to post a video of your team hearing the speech on social media with #TeamUpSpeakUp.
Whatever role you play, you can help change the concussion culture and improve concussion reporting. Learn how you can get involved:
