Aberdeen's 12-game streak is a franchise record

Connor Beatty scored goals in all three games as the Aberdeen Wings began the new year with three victories to extend their franchise-record North American Hockey League winning streak to 12 games.

Beatty had three goals and two assists while going plus-6 for the week. The 20-year-old forward from Concord, New Hampshire, has 24 points in 32 games and is on a six-game scoring streak.

“Connor’s ability to play with grit, speed and scoring touch makes him a very valuable player,” said Scott Langer, Aberdeen coach. “He is a high-energy player that sets the standard for work ethic and is a huge asset to our team.”

PLENTIFUL HELP: Beatty had plenty of help in keeping the team’s winning streak going as the Wings scored 20 times in three games.

Aberdeen defeated the Brookings Blizzard, 7-3, on New Year’s Day.

Peter Morgan had a hat trick, including both of the game’s first-period goals. Defenseman Pierson Brandon had three assists. Connor Close made 29 saves.

The Wings then won a home-and-home series with the Bismarck Bobcats Friday and Saturday. Aberdeen won 7-0 at home and 6-2 in Bismarck.

Matt Vernon had a 24-save shutout Friday. Adam Pitters had a hat trick and an assist.

Beatty scored with 1:10 left in the first period for a 2-0 lead, then assisted the first Pitters goal 2:11 into the second to make it 3-0.

Vernon made 26 more saves Saturday.

Riley Murphy, who had an assist, and Stepan Pokorny scored two goals each.

Beatty assisted Murphy 5:33 into the second to put the Wings ahead to stay. He scored midway through the third for a 4-2 lead.

BIG LEAD: The Amarillo Bulls also won three NAHL games and now have the biggest division lead of any first-place team in the league.

The Bulls are 17 points ahead in the South Division with a 25-3-2-2 record, which is second overall in the league to only the Johnstown Tomahawks.

Defenseman Jake Willets had three goals and an assist while going plus-6 in the wins. The Michigan native registered a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win Friday and scored twice in an 8-2 win Saturday as part of a three-game sweep of the visiting Corpus Christi IceRays.

CONTINUED SUCCESS: New Jersey native Jack Malone followed up a championship with Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge by extending his United States Hockey League scoring streak to six games.

Malone had a hat trick and an assist Friday to lead the Youngstown Phantoms to a 5-3 victory over the Sioux City Musketeers. The Cornell University commit added two assists Saturday in a 4-3 win over the Musketeers.

BUSY GOALIE: Anthony Del Tufo led Team Maryland to a two-game Eastern Hockey League sweep of a weekend series with the Philadelphia Junior Flyers.

Del Tufo made 60 saves in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout win, then 52 more in a 3-2 overtime win Sunday.

During Team Maryland’s three-game winning streak, the New Jersey native has stopped 152 of 161 shots.
