Slovakia Faces Russia and USA Takes on Switzerland

2018 Under-17 Four Nations Cup Day 2

The 2018 Under-17 Four Nations Cup continues Wednesday (Dec. 12) with a matchup between Russia and Slovakia. Faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at USA Hockey Arena.

The back half of Wednesday's slate features a matchup between Team USA and Switzerland at 7 p.m. ET at USA Hockey Arena.

Each team will compete in four games throughout the event, including three round-robin matchups. Points will be awarded for regulation wins (3), overtime wins (2) and overtime losses (1). Seeding for the first- and third-place games will be determined based on final point standings.

Matchup Information

RUSSIA vs. SLOVAKIA: Coming off a World Under-17 Hockey Challenge championship, the Russia Men's National Under-17 Team powered past Switzerland in its first matchup of the 2018 Under-17 Four Nations Cup and claimed a 9-1 win Tuesday afternoon at USA Hockey Arena.

The balanced Russian attack saw five players record multi-point games. Dmitri Zugan and Bogdan Trineev led the way with two goals each.

Vasili Ponomaryov, who paced the Russian team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in points (8), also recorded a goal in Russia's opening win.

Slovakia's Men's National Under-17 Team, fresh off the Four Nations Cup in Füssen, Germany, fell to Team USA, 7-2 in its opening matchup of the tournament in the late game Tuesday night at USA Hockey Arena.

Oleksiy Myklukha and Maxim Mastič found the back of the net for Slovakia in the loss to Team USA, while goaltender Ádám Beke stopped 29 of 36 shots.

Lukáš Lipiansky, who contributed three points across the three games to pace all Slovak skaters in scoring at the Four Nations Cup in Germany, will look to get on the scoresheet for Slovakia in its second game in Plymouth.

USA vs. SWITZERLAND : The U.S. National Under-17 Team picked up its second international victory of the season Tuesday night with a 7-2 win over Slovakia in the 2018 Under-17 Four Nations Cup.

Sixteen players found the scoresheet for Team USA in the dominant offensive showing, which included a pair of goals from Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas) and a three-point effort from Jake Sanderson (Whitefish, Mont.).

Yoder earned Player of the Game honors for Team USA with his two goals across an eight-minute span.

Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) supplied an impressive performance in net for the U17s and stopped 28 of 30 shots in the win.

Switzerland's Men's National Under-17 Team suffered a 9-1 loss to Russia in its 2018 Under-17 Four Nations Cup debut.

Jérémie Bärtschi scored the lone goal for the Swiss side. Josselin Dufey and Mike Zaugg, who later earned Player of the Game honors for Switzerland, registered assists.

Swiss goaltenders Lucas Rötheli and Loïc Galley split time between the pipes against Russia and registered 11 and eight saves, respectively.
