Final matchups set at 2018 Girls 16/17 PDC

Camp wraps up with eight games on Friday

The final team games of the 2018 USA Hockey Girls 16/17 Player Development Camp took place Thursday, July 19, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The day opened with a 2-1 victory by Team Gold over Team Red. Other games included a 3-1 victory for Team Light Blue over Team Black, a 1-1 tie between Team Gray and Team Navy, and a 6-3 victory for Team White over Team Royal.

STORIES FROM CAMP: Molly Griffin (Arlington, Mass.) recorded a goal and three assists for Team White in her team’s 6-3 victory on July 19 …Team Navy’s Mackenzie Bourgerie (St. Michael, Minn.) and Team Gray’s Allyson Qualley (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each had goals in their squads’ 1-1 tie game … Team Royal’s Baleigh Shuck (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) leads the camp’s goalies this week with 37 saves through three games played …Team Gray’s Suzette Faucher (Madison, Wis.) and Team Navy’s Olivia Rinzel (Chanhassen, Minn.) have both allowed only one goal apiece in camp action this week. Rinzel is tops in St. Cloud this week with a 0.81 GAA. Last year, Rinzel led the 15 Camp with a 0.00 GAA … Team Royal’s Celine Pietraszek (Colorado Springs, Colo.) (2G, 2A), Griffin (1G, 3A) and Team Gold’s Jada Habisch (Buffalo, Minn.) (1G, 3A) lead the camp’s scorers with four points apiece through four games … Team Red’s Hannah Chorske (Edina, Minn.) leads the camp in goal-scoring with three.

COACH’S CORNER: Team White intern coach Madeline Norton finished her second season as an assistant women’s hockey coach at College of the Holy Cross. Norton played college hockey at Union College and served as a team captain as a junior and senior.

THE STEELE EDGE: Team Red head coach Kristin Steele has worked at numerous USA Hockey Development Camps during her career and has worked as an evaluator for many USA Hockey districts. She will begin her 18th season as the women’s hockey head coach at Connecticut College in 2018-19. A native of Gill, Massachusetts, Steele attended the University of Maine and was a three-time team captain and All-AWCHA First selection on defense for the Black Bears.

TOURNEY TIME: To finish the last day of the camp, Team Light Blue and Team White will face each other and Team Navy will battle Team Royal in the other first-round game. The two winners and two losing teams will then meet in second-round play. In the other round-robin, Team Gold and Team will play along with a matchup between Team Black and Team Gray.

PLAYER NOTEBOOK: Baleigh Schuck enjoys outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and swimming. She has an interest in becoming a nurse … Team Black’s Ellie Bayard (Medfield, Mass.) has served on her school’s student council for the past three years. She has one goal and one assist this year at the camp.
