Charlie McAvoy Added to 2018 U.S. Men's National Team

U.S. Roster Now Sits at 24 Players

Defenseman Charlie McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y./Boston Bruins) has been added to the roster of the U.S. Men's National Team that is competing at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.

McAvoy will be playing on a U.S. Men's National Team for the second consecutive year and representing Team USA for the fifth time in IIHF world championship play. He most recently was a member of the 2017 U.S. Men's National Team that competed in the IIHF Men's World Championship in Cologne, Germany, and Paris, France. McAvoy served as an alternate captain for the gold medal-winning U.S. National Junior Team at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, where he was named to the Media All-Star Team. He also won gold with the 2015 U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team at the IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland, before earning a bronze medal with the 2016 U.S. National Junior Team in Helsinki, Finland. 

McAvoy just finished his first full season as a member of the NHL's Boston Bruins. In 63 games, he registered 32 points (7-25) and went on to add five points (1-4) in 12 playoff games. Before joining Boston in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he contributed three assists in six games, he played two seasons (2015-17) with Boston University. McAvoy registered 51 points (8-43) in 75 games at BU while earning Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors in 2015-16 and Hockey East First-Team All-Star and NCAA All-America honors in 2016-17.
