The 2018 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team will face the Czech Republic today in the quarterfinal round of the Olympic tournament. Opening faceoff is set for 12:10 p.m. local time (10:10 p.m. ET on Feb. 20) at Gangneung Hockey Centre and the game will be broadcast live on CNBC and streamed live at NBCOlympics.com. The winner advances to Friday’s semifinals.
The U.S. and Czech Republic met in the 2014 Olympic quarterfinals as well, with Team USA earning a 5-2 victory.
ALL-TIME vs. CZECH REPUBLIC IN THE OLYMPICS
The U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team is 1-0-0-2-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) against the Czech Republic in Olympic competition. The last meeting between the two teams was in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Olympics with the U.S. taking a 5-2 victory. The U.S. had five different goal scorers and Ryan Suter recorded three assists to pace the U.S. attack.
U.S. defenseman James Wisniewski celebrates his 34th birthday here in South Korea today. Wisniewski's parents are here, but both are suffering from Norovirus and cannot attend today's contest. When he's finished with hockey career, Wisniewski hopes to go into broadcasting.
LOOKING TO GET TO SEMIFINALS
The U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team looks to advance to the semifinals of the Olympic tournament for the third straight Games and fourth time in five Olympics. With a win here today, the U.S. will advance to play the winner of the O.A.R.-Norway quarterfinal game on Friday (Feb. 23) at the Gangneung Hockey Centre.
