GAMEDAY: The U.S. to Open Olympic Play Against Finland

The 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team will open preliminary round play today (Feb. 11) at 4:40 p.m. KST/2:40 a.m ET in PyeongChang, South Korea, at the Kwandong Hockey Centre. Today's game marks the first meeting between the U.S. and Finland since the 2017 Four Nations Cup, where the U.S. defeated their opponent, 8-2. 

GAMEDAY
The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team opens its preliminary-round schedule in the XXIII Olympic Winter Games today against Finland at the Kwandong Hockey Centre. Team USA is the away team and will wear its white jerseys. Today's game will be televised on NBCSN and live game updates will be provided on Twitter @USAHockey.

ALL-TIME VS. FINLAND
The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team is 6-0-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time against Finland at the Olympics. In international competition overall, including the Olympics and Women’s World Championship, the U.S. is 21-0-0-1-1 (W-OTW-L-OTL-T). The U.S. and Finland faced off in the preliminary round of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, with Team USA earning a 3-1 victory on February 8, 2014.

ALL-TIME IN OPENING GAMES
The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team is 5-0-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time in its first game at the Olympic Winter Games, and has never allowed more than one goal in its opening contests.

BREAKING THE ICE
Thirteen members of the U.S. team will make their Olympic debut today as members of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team. They include the following:

Goaltenders - Nicole Hensley, Alex Rigsby and Maddie Rooney
Defenders - Cayla Barnes, Megan Keller, Kali Flanagan, Emily Pfalzer and Sidney Morin
Forwards - Haley Skarupa, Kelly Pannek, Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi and Amanda Pelkey

YOUTH HOCKEY SPOTLIGHT
Coach Gordie Stafford at Shattuck-St. Mary's had a positive impact on Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson both as a player and a person, according to the U.S. forward.

"He just made the game fun. The players who truly love the game love to come to the rink every day and compete and want to get better. I loved every second I spent at Shattuck playing for Coach Stafford."
