Divider box tag allows players to continue working on skating in a fun, competitive environment

Purpose: Divider box tag allows players to continue working on skating in a fun, competitive environment. Specifically, the game emphasizes short-burst acceleration, edge control, change of direction, dodging and high knees. There is also a decision-making component tied to this game for the tagger and evaders.

Coaching Points: The “it” player is the player inside the box (Player X in this example). The object of the game is for the players outside the box (O players, in this example) to touch two feet inside the box without being tagged by X. The O players must watch and decide when there is an opening inside the box that is safe from X. O players will gauge the situation, watch X, and then burst to the box, jump over the dividers, touch two feet and then immediately exit the box with another quick burst and jump outside the box. The coach can make several rules, for example:

  1. Player that is tagged replaces the ‘it’ person.
  2. Add two taggers to increase the challenge.

Equipment: Four dividers; no sticks.

Comments: This drill will provide fun and an increase in athleticism for your athletes.
