Ben Smith Named to IIHF Hall of Fame Class of 2016

Renowned coach a builder of women's game and many other aspects of hockey

Three-time U.S. Olympic women's ice hockey coach Ben Smith is among the newest additions to the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame it was announced today.

Smith, who among his many accomplishments led the U.S. to the first-ever gold medal award in women's ice hockey in 1998, will be joined by former players Peter Bondra, Sergei Fyodorov (Fedorov), Valeri Kamenski, and builder Pat Quinn.

Former Hungarian forward Gabor Ocskay is the recipient of the Richard “Bibi” Torriani Award, and former commentator Nikolai Ozerov has been given the Paul Loicq Award.

The 2016 IIHF Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place in Moscow on 22 May, the final day of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The venue will be the brand new Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame.
