Joey Anderson Notches Two Goals in Victory for Team USA

LAMBTON SHORES, Ont. - Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) notched two goals as the U.S. National Under-17 Team rolled over Canada Black, 4-1, here in quarterfinal action this evening at The Shores Recreation Centre. With the win, Team USA advances to the semifinals of the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Max Jones (Rochester, Mich.) lit the lamp first for Team USA, rifling a one-time shot past Stuart Skinner. Patrick Khodorenko (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Kailer Yamamoto (Spokane, Wash.) assisted on the play. A power-play tally, scored 4-on-3 by Anderson, doubled the U.S. lead, 2-0. From the right face-off circle, Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) found Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) on the left side. Circling behind the net Fox flipped the puck out front to Anderson for the marker.

Canada Black cut the U.S. lead in half midway through the middle stanza, netting a shorthanded marker at 10:22. Yamamoto reclaimed the two-goal lead for Team USA with time winding down in the second. Yamamoto found room on the right side, skated toward the net and wristed a shot short-side for the tally. Jones and Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) helped set up the play.

The lone score of the third period came off the stick of Anderson, as he took a deflected pass block by Canada Black and beat Skinner. William Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Krys registered assists on the score.

Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) made 23 saves between the pipes for the U.S., while Skinner stopped 37 shots in net for Canada Black.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will next skate in the semifinal round on Friday, Nov. 7. Pending results of tonight's other quarterfinal contests, a time and opponent have yet to be determined. Semifinal games will take place at the RBC Centre in Sarnia, Ont. at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST respectively.
