COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey announced today that Jasmine Grotto (Alpena, Mich.), a 2014 graduate of Wayne State University (Mich.), has been named the 16th recipient of the Brian Fishman Internship. Grotto’s experience will include 12 months in the communications division at USA Hockey’s national office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, beginning in June, with the second 12 months of the internship spent in the communications department at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Brian Fishman Internship is awarded annually to an outstanding college graduate pursuing a career in athletic communications. It was established in 1999 in honor of the late Brian Fishman, who served as the manager of communications and marketing for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. He died unexpectedly on Jan. 7, 1999, at the age of 28.

“Being selected as the Brian Fishman Intern is a tremendous honor,” Grotto said. “I cannot thank the Fishman family and USA Hockey enough for this opportunity. I am excited to represent Brian’s legacy and get back to the game I’m most passionate about.”

Grotto’s responsibilities will include assisting with various communication projects, event promotions and publishing initiatives including USA Hockey Magazine.

Previously, the Michigan native spent time with the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers during the 2012-13 season as a marketing and game-night operations intern. Her main role was managing the team’s game-day social media, including live tweeting game action and planning and activating digital promotions. She also implemented the team’s official Instagram account. Grotto has also completed internships at Wayne State and Detroit/Windsor radio station 89X.

Grotto currently works for the National Football League’s Detroit Lions and for Major League Baseball's Advanced Media.

With the Lions, she has spent the last year as an intern and then the corporate communications coordinator, where she focused on the team’s off-field interests. Her duties have included researching editorial opportunities; conducting media outreach; contributing website and social media content; managing players and alumni for community and non-football events; and coordinating and managing events, including Meet Up & Eat Up with the Lions, which was featured nationally on television.

Grotto is a real-time correspondent at Comerica Park in Detroit for Major League Baseball Advanced Media.
