USA vs. Canada -- The Rivalry

The United States and Canada are meeting in the Paralympic Games for the first time since 2002 and just the third time overall. The U.S. topped Canada, 5-1, in round-robin play in 2002 and the teams tied, 1-1, in round-robin action at the 1998 Paralympics.

Outside the Paralympics, the U.S. and Canada play each other more than any other two nations. During Head Coach Jeff Sauer’s three-year tenure, 17 of Team USA’s 41 games have been against Canada. The U.S. has won seven of those 17 contests. Team USA enters today’s game on a two-game winning streak in the series, having beaten the Canadians on Jan. 10 (2-1) and Jan. 11 (3-1) as part of a three-game series in North Carolina.

The game can be viewed live on NBC Sports Network at noon ET.

What They're Saying

Head Coach Jeff Sauer
On playing Canada in the semifinals ... "Well, we knew we would have to get through Canada to get a gold medal anyway, whether we play them in the next game or the last game. Nothing would be better than if we could come through and beat Canada and play Russia again. That would be perfect."

Goaltender Steve Cash
On facing Canada ... "
We've played them numerous times throughout the season and we know what they can bring. We just have to make sure we can control the face-off to start, force them to make mistakes and play our game."
