NTDP Announces Next Six Commitments for 2013-14 Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Forward Dennis Yan (Troy, Mich.), along with defensemen Christian Evers (Waukee, Iowa), Casey Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.), Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Mass.) and Joseph Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) and goaltender Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) have committed to join USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program for the 2013-14 season, it was announced today. The players, all from the 1997 birth year, will compete as members of the U.S. National Under-17 Team.

Yan played in 40 games for the Belle Tire Midget Major program in Detroit, Mich., amassing 45 points (30-15). The forward also tallied six goals and added three assists in eight playoff games.

Evers skated in 70 games for the Omaha Lancers Midget Minor program. The University of North Dakota verbal commit notched 27 goals and added 44 assists.

Fitzgerald scored six goals and collected 17 assists while playing in 25 games for Malden Catholic High School (Mass.). He is verbally committed to Boston College.

Hanifin averaged over a point per game for St. Sebastian's School (Mass.). He scored 11 times and registered 25 assists in 30 games. The defenseman is verbally committed to Boston College.

Masonius patrolled the blue line for the New Jersey Hitmen Junior A squad, appearing in 10 games. The New Hampshire verbal commit had three points (1-2) for the EJHL Dineen Cup Champions.

Lackey was most recently between the pipes for Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.), where he went 15-7-2 (W-L-T) with four shutouts. He recorded a 2.43 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 1,343 minutes played. The goalie is verbally committed to Princeton.

NOTES: The 2013-14 U.S. National Under-17 Team will play in the United States Hockey League, the top junior league in the U.S. It will also compete in three international competitions, including the 2014 World Under-17 Challenge in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia ... Casey Fitzgerland (North Reading, Mass.) is the son of former NHL, World Junior Championship and World Championship forward, Tom Fitzgerald, who currently serves as the assistant to the general manager for the Pittsburgh Penguins ... The roster currently stands at 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders, having previously announced commitments by forwards Jeremy Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.), Christian Fischer (Wayne, Ill.), Jordan Greenway (Potsdam, N.Y.), Luke Kirwan (DeWitt, N.Y.), Luke Kunin (Chesterfield, Mo.), Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Jack Roslovic (Columbus, Ohio), Matthew Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.), Brendan Warren (Carleton, Mich.) and Colin White (Hanover, Mass.), along with defensemen Nicholas Boka (Plymouth, Mich.), Caleb Jones (Frisco, Texas), Charles McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Zach Werenski (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), and netminder Luke Opilka (St. Louis, Mo.).
