ABOUT BREEN

Breen has spent the past season as the director of hockey operations for the Providence College men's ice hockey team. He will begin his duties in September and be based at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Established in April 2010, the Brendan Burke Internship is awarded annually to a recent college graduate who is pursuing a career in hockey operations. The internship was founded in memory of the late Brendan Burke, who served as a student assistant for the Miami University men's ice hockey team and was the son of Brian Burke, general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs. Brendan Burke passed away in an automobile accident on Feb. 5, 2010.

Breen's responsibilities will include interface with the NTDP, national teams, international events and player development camps and also include exposure to USA Hockey's acclaimed American Development Model and Coaching Education Program.

Breen, who graduated from Providence in 2012 with a master's degree in business administration, created the full-time, unpaid position of director of hockey operations at Providence in 2011. He was responsible for in-game and post-game analysis and coordinating team logistics and streamlining communications while working alongside the coaching staff.

He has also spent time working with the National Hockey League, the Boston Bruins and the Providence Bruins, coordinating hockey operations and promoting the game at a grassroots level.
