TAMPERE, Finland – After a couple of days off, the U.S. Men’s National Team is back in action here today against Great Britain in the fourth of its seven preliminary round games at the 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Opening faceoff is set for 4:20 p.m. (9:20 a.m. ET) and NHL Network will televise the game live. Game stats can be found here. 

The U.S. and Great Britain have met just five times ever in the world championship, with the last meeting coming in 2019 when the U.S. earned a 6-3 win in preliminary round play behind a goal and two assists from Patrick Kane, and two points each from Chris Kreider and Derek Ryan. Previous to that game, the two teams hadn’t met since 1949.

The U.S. will look to rebound from its 4-1 defeat at the hands of host Finland on Monday. While Team USA outshot the Finns 30-25 in the contest, it was on the penalty kill for nearly 15 minutes and yielded three power play goals.

Two new players are expected to be in the U.S. lineup today in defenseman Jon Merrill from the Minnesota Wild and goaltender Jeremy Swayman from the Boston Bruins.

Team USA has two wins to its credit in its first three games, including a 4-1 triumph to open the tournament over Latvia as well as a 3-2 overtime victory over Austria.

Great Britain has also played three games and is winless. The Brits opened with a 5-1 loss to Czechia before dropping a 4-3 decision to Norway in a shootout. Sweden downed Great Britain by a 6-0 count in its last game on Tuesday.

Captain Seth Jones enters play today as Team USA’s leading point getter with four (1-3—4). He has averaged 25:16 of ice team per game, the most of any player in the tournament. Alex Galchenyuk is second with a goal and two assists, while Kieffer Bellows and Luke Hughes each have a goal and an assist to tie for third with Jaycob Megna, who has two assists.

Following today’s game, the U.S. will have a day off before a 12:20 p.m. (5:20 a.m. ET) tilt with Sweden on Saturday.
