Oversee all Human Resources strategic initiatives across the organization

Job Title: Director, Human Resources
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: USA Hockey National Office - Colorado Springs, CO
Basic Function: Oversee all Human Resource strategic initiatives across the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to implement the USA Hockey Strategic Plan
  • Help to create a positive, trusting and transparent culture throughout USA Hockey and participate in group meetings to listen to employees and participate in identifying priorities
  • Work closely with other members of the Senior Staff to identify best coaching and performance management practices with team members to ensure accountability and performance excellence
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive compensation structure for all salaried and hourly positions at USA Hockey that is market driven and updated and communicated to all staff
  • Ensure that the Employee Handbook is updated annually and distributed and communicated to all USA Hockey employees
  • Provide communication regarding professional development opportunities for the USA Hockey organization as well as individual professional development and self-development opportunities for ongoing growth and career progression for new and existing USA Hockey employees
  • Oversee USA Hockey's recruiting efforts for regular, intern and temporary talent
  • Provide Human Resources support and guidance to the Michigan employees and operation and other parts of the country to understand the unique business operations
  • Create a formal onboarding and orientation experience for all new employees and re-engage existing staff with an orientation experience to share culture tenets and language to re-energize staff
  • Responsible for the creation and execution of the HR Strategic Plan for USA Hockey
  • Supervise the Manager of Insurance and Employee Benefits and create opportunities for this position to provide more HR Generalist support to the Director of HR
  • Provide leadership and team-building consulting and coaching at all levels in helping the organization meet its business and strategic objectives
  • Coach, lead and provide guidance in the development of talent across all functional areas including workforce planning, structure and restructure, training, and succession planning
  • Proactively establish norms and guidelines for all employment practices across the organization; including all HR compliance issues
  • Serve as primary contact for all senior level talent recruitment
  • Assist in the formalization of the organization's Diversity & Inclusion program, including identification of the most appropriate leadership, framework, and initiatives; work closely with the Director of Diversity & Inclusion on such initiatives and programs
  • Develop and lead a consistent, well-communicated, and well-documented performance evaluation process of all employees on an annual basis to ensure the highest operational standards
  • Work closely with all facets of USA Hockey (Volunteers, BOD, etc.) as needed and directed
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full understanding of all Federal, Colorado and other applicable state employment laws
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and mediate sensitive and/or confrontational matters
  • Solid understanding of business and each of its components
  • Ability to think strategically and work well with team leaders; Proven ability to positively influence and guide organizational change
  • Strong leadership, analytical and communication and listening skills
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality on all HR issues, information and records
  • Minimum 7-10 years-experience as a Human Resources professional at a senior level
  • Minimum BA/BS degree; Masters a plus
  • PHR (Professional in HR) certification and/or SPHR preferred

SALARY:

  • Salary range is $100,000-$110,000 based on experience
  • Full-time, exempt, 12-month position, includes excellent USA Hockey benefits package
  • 12 paid holidays, 10 days of vacation (or more depending on length of service), seven days of sick leave, two personal days per year
  • Health, dental and vision insurance plans with minimal co-pay. We pay a substantial amount of the health insurance premiums
  • Life insurance and long-term disability insurance are company paid
  • A 403(b) retirement program which includes employer-matching contributions
