Provides administrative and program support to USA Hockey's SafeSport Program

Job Title: SafeSport Program Manager
Department: Legal Department
Reports To: General Counsel
Basic Function: Works directly within legal department to provide administrative and program support to USA Hockey’s SafeSport Program.

The USA Hockey Safesport Program provides policies, training, background checks, and a reporting and response system to assist in removing misconduct and abuse from USA Hockey programs to and protect USA Hockey members from such abuse or misconduct. Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the day to day operations of the USA Hockey SafeSport Program.
  • Receive and respond to reports of violations of SafeSport Program policies; coordinate with USA
  • Hockey and affiliate volunteers to oversee completion of investigation of reports.
  • Maintain records (electronic filing system) of all SafeSport reports received by USA Hockey and its affiliates, including through investigation, hearing, appeal and resolution; track enforcement through database management.
  • Take calls and respond to verbal and written reports from members or others regarding allegations of misconduct.
  • Work in conjunction with legal staff to provide communication to all relevant parties on progress and status of complaints, investigations, hearing procedures, appeals, and final resolutions.
  • Make reports of misconduct or absue as appropriate to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, law enforcement and child protection authorities.
  • Coordinate research and response to membership inquiries from the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
  • Communicate decisions of the U.S. Center for SafeSport to USA Hockey affiliates and programs for enforcement.
  • Work with national and affiliate staff and volunteers to collect and synthesize feedback on member protection efforts, engage in ongoing evaluations of programming and propose and implement new ideas.
  • Work with General Counsel on compliance with SafeSport requirements of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and state and federal law.
  • Oversee functioning and training of the 34 Affiliate SafeSport Coordinators in responding to reports of violations of SafeSport Program policies.
  • Conduct training sessions for affiliate and local program volunteers on the SafeSport Program, its requirements and best practices.
  • Work with SafeSport Compliance and Legal Administrator in operation and tracking compliance of USA Hockey membership with online SafeSport training and background check requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with members and volunteers via telephone and e-mail.
  • To provide support as needed for other departments and volunteer personnel within USA Hockey.
  • Prepare, proof, copy, and distribute correspondence, presentations, and reports.
  • Miscellaneous support of legal counsel for all SafeSport matters.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in social work, criminal justice, paralegal studies or other related field, is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality on senstitive membership information and complaint details. Must be objective and compassionate.
  • Excellent organizational, management, communication (oral and written), problem solving, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and follow through.
  • Must have ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Strong computer skills essential with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Experience and understanding of non-profit, volunteer based organizations preferred. Specific knowledge of or experience with hockey or other sports or youth serving programs a plus.

Salary: Commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefit package.
