Job Title: SafeSport Compliance and Legal Administrator
Department: Legal
Reports To: General Counsel/Associate Counsel
Basic Function: The USA Hockey SafeSport Compliance and Legal Administrator will support the USA Hockey USA Hockey SafeSport Program in implementation, oversight and communication of background check and SafeSport requirements for USA Hockey membership, and provide administrative support to the legal department in day-to-day operations and general office responsibilities.

The USA Hockey Safesport Program provides policies, training, background checks, and a reporting and response system to assist in removing misconduct and abuse from USA Hockey programs to and protect USA Hockey members from such abuse or misconduct. Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operations of the USA Hockey SafeSport Program, including managing background check and SafeSport training compliance, and working with SafeSport Program Manager related to tracking and reports of violations of SafeSport policies.
  • Manage processing of background screen actions and determinations for background screening program throughout USA Hockey programs.
  • Work with USA Hockey and affiliate volunteers to coordinate background check decisions, issuance of determinations and management of records.
  • Coordinate, oversee and monitor day-to-day operations of online SafeSport Training for USA Hockey membership.
  • Work with and support staff and volunteers to promote SafeSport education and training at the Affiliate and local level.
  • Coordinate, oversee and monitor SafeSport training and background screening compliance for all national level staff and volunteers.
  • Respond to online and telephonic inquiries from and provide assistance to membership regarding background check and SafeSport training status and completion of requirements.
  • Work in coordination with USA Hockey affiliates and local hockey programs to verify compliance by membership with SafeSport training and background check requirements.
  • Increase awareness of SafeSport and background check policies through online channels including blog, website and social media.
  • Provide customer service for membership and/or certification requirements, SafeSport training, and background check programs.
  • Interface with other departments to incorporate SafeSport messages and policies into training and programmatic activities.
  • Work with SafeSport Program Manager to research and respond to membership inquiries from U.S. Center for SafeSport.
  • Assist in maintaining paper and electronic file system for SafeSport, legal and contract documents. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key USA Hockey staff, affiliate officers and volunteers and vendors.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with members and volunteers via telephone and e-mail.
  • Provide administrative support as needed for General Counsel and legal and SafeSport program.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Paralegal studies or legal administrative studies preferred.
  • Experience in a non-profit setting, including with youth serving organizations, is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with a sport’s governing body or other sports organization is beneficial, but not required.
  • Understanding of USA Hockey, United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and U.S. Center for SafeSport regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive membership information and complaint details.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to converse effectively with a variety of contacts.
  • Ability to work independently, but comfortable working in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Strong computer skills essential with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook).

Salary: Commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefit package.
