Canada claimed victory in the first exhibition of the camp on Friday night, defeating the U.S., 4-1. Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) scored the lone goal for the United States. The U.S. had several scoring chances in the second period throughout the game, but could not find the back of the net. Monique Lamoreux-Morando (Grand Forks, N.D.) led Team USA with five shots on net, while Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.) and Cayla Barnes(Eastvale, Calif.) each had three. Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) made 19 saves for the U.S.

AGAINST CANADA

The United States went on to claim its fifth consecutive gold medal the Women's Worlds, dating back to 2013. The two superpowers in women's hockey, the United States and Canada have battled in the gold-medal game of every IIHF Women’s World Championship and Olympic Winter Games staged, with just two exceptions (2019 World Championship, 2006 Olympics).

PREPARING FOR RIVALRY SERIES

The series opens Dec. 14 with a 7. p.m. ET contest at XL Center in Hartford, Conn., and will feature three games in Canada before the series finale in Anaheim, Calif., on Feb. 8.
