44 Players Named To U.S. Roster For 2019 WJSS

Camp returns to USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, from July 26-Aug. 3

Forty-four players have been invited to the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase that will be held from July 26-Aug. 3 in Plymouth, Michigan, at USA Hockey Arena, USA Hockey announced today. The players will audition for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2019, through Jan. 5, 2020, in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.

U.S. Camp Roster

Of the 44 players attending, six are returnees from last year's U.S. National Junior Team that earned the silver medal at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver, British Columbia. Additionally, 25 players have won medals at IIHF events while a total of 21 players have skated on at least one U.S. select team.

The roster includes 20 players who skated in the United States Hockey League during the 2018-19 season, including 10 players from USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. In addition, 15 players competed in the college hockey ranks last season while another 21 players are expected to make their collegiate debuts this coming season.

The United States enters the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship having earned four-straight medals (gold - 2017; silver - 2019; bronze - 2016, 2018) for the first time in tournament history.

The week-long camp will include 11 international competitions between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States.

Of the 44 players invited to the U.S. camp roster, 18 have been drafted by an NHL team, while another 26 are eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft, which begins tomorrow, June 21 ... A total of 22 players who skated at least one full season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program are among the invites ... Eight of the 44 players participated in last year's camp ... John Vanbiesbrouck (Detroit, Mich.) is the general manager of the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team ... Scott Sandelin (Hibbing, Minn.) is the head coach of the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team with David Lassonde (Durham, N.H.), Steve Miller (Sun Prairie, Wis.), Brett Larson (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Jerry Keefe (Saugus, Mass.) serving as assistant coaches ... USA Hockey's international council, chaired by Gavin Regan (Potsdam, N.Y.), vice president of USA Hockey, has oversight responsibilities for all U.S. national teams.
