U.S. Natl Sled Team Meets Canada in Sled Series This Weekend

Teams face off Friday and Saturday in Indian Trail, N.C.; U.S. Men's Dev Sled Team Training in Nashville

The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will host Canada this weekend in a two-game series at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina. 

Both games, which will include a 3:30 p.m. ET faceoff on March 22 and a 4:00 p.m. ET tilt on March 23, will be streamed live on HockeyTV. Fans can attend both games free of charge while live streaming by HockeyTV will be available at USAHockey.HockeyTV.com. Team USA will be led by captain Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.), alternate captains Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) and Rico Roman (Portland, Ore.); and goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.). The United States will conduct practices beginning Wednesday, March 20, prior to its meetings against Canada. The Series marks the second international competition of the season for the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team after capturing an unprecedented fifth-straight Para Hockey Cup in London, Ontario, with a 5-4 championship game victory over Canada last December.

The Series will serve as a final tuneup ahead of the 2019 Para Ice Hockey World Championship that will be held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from April 27-May 4. Taking place for the 10th time, the United States will enter the event seeking its fourth gold-medal after claiming the 2009, 2012 and 2015 world championships. This is the second time the tournament will take place in Ostrava, where the United States captured its inaugural world championship gold medal in 2009.

U.S. Men's Development Team To Train In Nashville This Weekend

With the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team set to compete against Canada and the U.S. Women's Development Sled Hockey Team having completed its season last month, the U.S. Men's Development Sled Hockey Team will meet and train in Nashville this weekend. 

The three days of training, which will include five practices in total, will take place at Ford Ice Center serve as the team's final preparation ahead of the Defi Sportif event that will host a three-game series between the men's development sled hockey teams for both the United States and Canada. 

A year ago, the three-game series at the Defi Sportif event saw the U.S. claim two victories. After opening the Series with a 2-1 victory, the U.S. faced a 2-1 setback before closing the series with a 4-0 shutout.

Serving as head coach for the U.S. Men's Development Sled Hockey Team is Kip St. Germaine (East Falmouth, Mass.), who helped the U.S. capture its first-ever gold medals at both the Paralympic (2002) and World Championship (2009) stage. For the full U.S. roster, click here.
