The 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team swept Group B play with an 8-0 victory over host, Korea.
TEAM USA PRESENTS BEUNDORF WITH JERSEY
After the game, Team USA was visited by a contingent from the USOC, including Rick Adams, chief of Paralympic sport and National Governing Body organizational development; Charlie Huebner, vice president of Paralympic development for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation; and Larry Beundorf, chief security officer for the United States Olympic Committee. During the visit, the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team presented Larry with a signed jersey for his support and efforts.
PRELIMS WRAP WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TIME
Upon conclusion of Team USA's group play, players and staff were given the evening off to spend time with family and friends. While a majority of those who traveled from Korea include family and significant others, some of those here supporting the 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team include prosthetists who measured, designed, and fit, or serviced the player's prosthetics.
"I think for a lot of us, they become part of our families," said Tyler Carron, who is seeking back-to-back gold medals after helping Team USA win gold in 2014. "I know for me and Nikko, we probably wouldn't be here today if it weren't for our prosthetists."
CASH ROCKS 'MONEY' SUIT
For today's game, U.S. netminder Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) was dressed in a 'money' suit. The suit paid homage to his nickname, '$ Money', which is also recognized in a number of places on his mask. For a video on his helmet, click here.
LOOK AHEAD: OFF DAY TOMORROW
After three-straight days of games, Team USA will have the day off in advance of Thursday's semifinal tilt against Italy.
The two teams are meeting for the fifth time this season. At the 2017 World Sled Hockey Challenge, the U.S. skated to a 10-0 preliminary round win before besting Italy, 5-1, in the semifinal. Then, at the 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament in Turin, Italy, the two teams faced off in the tournament-opening game, which the U.S. won, 6-0, before meeting again in the championship game, where Team USA again captured a 6-0 victory.
