Established in March 2015, the Rochester Mustangs Sled Hockey Program provides opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in hockey and promotes the continued development of excellence in hockey in Minnesota.

The first ever sled hockey program in Rochester, Minnesota, the program is open to players ages five and above with physical disabilities throughout Southeast Minnesota, Southwest Wisconsin and Northern Iowa. Born out of the passion of Dr. Michael Stuart, chief medical officer for USA Hockey, the program has already received 11 players, 10 dedicated volunteers and three coaches to date.

By receiving the $25,000 Sled Hockey Development Grant, presented by Labatt Blue, the program will be able to secure ice time, sleds, sticks, and helmets for every player in addition to assisting in travel expenses. As a brand new organization, these funds will assist the organization in becoming a sustainable program that will provide people with disabilities more opportunities to play hockey.

The sled hockey program is a member of the Minnesota Sled Hockey Association, Inc., a Minnesota-based 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, which is dedicated to promoting societal awareness of the challenges and needs of persons who have physical disabilities.
