WHO HAS TO GET SCREENED?
All adult coaches, officials, board members, employees, volunteers, and anyone else who will have regular contact with, or authority over, athletes under the age of 18 are required to submit to a background screen before any such contact with those athletes.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Background screens through NCSI under the national program will cost $30 for all domestic screens. A Homeland Security Search is required for members who have lived outside of the U.S. for six consecutive months in any one country during the past 7 years, with exemptions for U.S. visa holders and service members living in U.S. government housing for an additional fee of $25. Canadian citizens, and those who have lived in Canada, a Level 1, 2, or 3 Criminal Record Check conducted within one year can be provided in lieu of the Homeland Security Search.
HOW LONG DOES SCREENING TAKE?
On average, background screens take between 3-10 business days to complete. There may be additional delays for, but not limited to, international searches, court delays, and state-specific requirements.
HOW OFTEN IS SCREENING REQUIRED?
Background screens are required every two seasons and expire on August 31. Screens completed January–March are valid through August 31 of the following year. Screens completed April–December are valid through August 31 two years later.
