JOIN THE CAMPAIGN:
COME PLAY YOUTH HOCKEY

USA Hockey is inviting parents of children ages 4 to 8 years old to watch their kids soar with its “Come Play Youth Hockey” campaign.

The artwork within the campaign was specifically designed to accentuate the positive qualities that youth hockey can bring out of kids and stress the importance of why a parent may want to choose youth hockey. This message, which can be used at all levels of youth hockey from the national office to the local association or facility, is one that will help attract the parents of children that may not think of hockey as a team-sport option when they are choosing their kid’s activities.

To help local rinks and associations best utilize this campaign, USA Hockey has partnered with Digital Ink, a full-service web-to-print company that is capable of customizing the artwork with your logo and contact information to help you attract new players. Click here to get started with Digital Ink. You can choose from a variety of print options including posters, flyers, postcards and more. Digital Ink can create a mailing that is targeted to a specific zip code and whether or not there are kids between a certain age group living at that address. Simply create your own account and you can have professionally produced pieces in 72 hours.

If you would like additional information regarding the Come Play Youth Hockey Campaign or the Digital Ink web-to-print portal, please email us at ComePlayYouthHockey@usahockey.org or contact USA Hockey’s Membership Development department at (719) 576-8724.

Score For Schools Program

The Newark Ice Hockey Association teamed up with local schools in the Licking County and surrounding areas to create the Score for Schools program. The Score for Schools program is a field trip opportunity for local schools to incorporate the science and physical education offered at an ice arena to students. The format is two hours long with one group skating or learning the basics of how to play hockey while the other group is taken to the conference room for a science lesson on how the ice arena makes ice. Newark has introduced hockey and ice skating to over 600 children in the area with grades ranging from first to sixth. Their membership numbers have increased by 11 percent, which does not include the 2009-10 season. The ice arena has also grown their open skate numbers with this program. For specifics on Newark’s Score for Schools program, click here. To get the growth model outline, click here.

HOCKEY WEEKEND ACROSS AMERICA 2010 – January 29-31
85 Rinks Signed up to Host a Free Clinic on Saturday, January 30, 2010

At the root of growing hockey, the largest barriers are making your product cost-effective and convenient. To demonstrate how to overcome these barriers, Saturday, January 30th, of the 2010 Hockey Weekend Across America, USA Hockey will promote a nationwide free trial of hockey. This is a countrywide effort to have local rinks and associations offer a free sample of hockey at a consistent time with the maximum amount of ease.

The goal is to have least 200 rinks offer the program from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm their local time zone. So far, 85 rinks and associations have signed up to host a clinic – don’t miss out on this opportunity to grow the game in your area. Every facility participating will be promoted through the Hockey Weekend Across America website and their national campaign publicizing the event. If your facility is interested in participating, please fill out this form. For other questions, please email growthegame@usahockey.org.

Players At U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Orientation Camp Donate OneGoal Equipment Through NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund

Each of the 34 players attending the U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Orientation Camp in Woodridge, Ill., this week will donate 15 sets of OneGoal starter equipment to a youth hockey organization of their choice. The equipment was purchased by the National Hockey League Players’ Association, through its Goals & Dreams Fund, in cooperation with USA Hockey and OneGoal.

Here are some of the local associations players chose their equipment to go to: Chris Drury (Wonderland Wizards; Orange, Conn.), Kyle Okposo and Zach Parise (Highland Central Association; St. Paul, Minn.), Joe Pavelski (Portage County Youth on Ice; Stevens Point, Wis.), Erik Johnson (Bloomington Athletic Hockey Association; Bloomington, Minn.), Jack Johnson (Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association; Ann Arbor, Mich.), Rob Scuderi (Freeport Arrows Organization, Bellmore, NY) and Ryan Whitney (South Boston Youth Hockey; South Boston, Mass.).

OneGoal Market Blitz

OneGoal has selected two markets to help promote the growth of youth hockey. Fresh off the heels of last season’s successful blitzes in Connecticut and Illinois, OneGoal has chosen Massachusetts and California as this season’s partners.

These market blitzes are conducted by hosting state-wide “Try Hockey for Free” clinics with the goal of inviting new potential players and their parents to the rink. On November 7, successful events in Massachusetts and California will see over 500 new players come out and try youth hockey. For more information on how you can host a similar event to grow your association, please click here.

If you are a local association or rink and would like more information on participating in the OneGoal blitz in Massachusetts, please contact Kevin Kavanagh or if you are in California, please contact Courtney Welch.
