Growing hockey at the youth level is the highest priority for the department. Pat Kelleher will oversee the new department. Fond du Lac (Wis.) Offers Free Hockey for First-Year Players

The Fond du Lac Youth Association will be offering hockey free this season to all first time participants in their Learn to Play/Learn to Skate programs. The association bought 70 sets of OneGoal starter equipment and will be supplying equipment for the participants in the November through February program.

“We have 2 high school programs that we feed and we need to grow our membership numbers,” said Fond du Lac Board Member Don Mulder. “The cost of hockey made it tough to get kids started. Once they get started in hockey, we think they will want to stay in the sport.”

Is your program trying something to increase participation? Please let us know and we can share ideas with other programs around the country – patk@usahockey.org.

Vitamin H – Put Some Hockey In a Kid’s Diet With OneGoal

Great things happen when you put hockey in a kid's diet. Hockey is rich in energy, it boosts confidence and produces big healthy smiles. A kid's world is full of sweets and electronic junk food. Counteract that with the Vitamin H in hockey. Visit onegoal.com to download and post cool posters that show how healthy, fun and energetic hockey can be for kids. It's a great way to spread the word in your schools, rec centers, rinks and other places where active-minded kids and families are looking for a fun, healthy outlet.
