As of September 1, the new USA Hockey Coaching Education Program requirements are in effect.
Each new coach will take one clinic per season until they obtain Level 3 certification. Level 1 and 2 are valid for one (1) season only, Level 3 is valid for two (2) seasons.
All coaches with valid CEP certification as of May 2011, will be grandfathered in at their current level. Fox example, a Level 1 coach as of May 2011 must take a Level 2 clinic this season, a Level 2 coach must take a Level 3 clinic, etc.
Coaches who do not coach in continuous years must re-enter the program at the next level when they resume coaching responsibilities.
Clinic Schedule and Registration
Please check the clinic schedule often as clinics are continually being added.
A Level 3 coach who is due to expire in 2011 must take the Level 3 Track 1 online recertification or move up to Level 4. Level 3 Track 1 and Track 2 recertification are each valid for two (2) seasons.
Level 3 Online Recertification
Level 4 certification does not expire. Coaches at Level 4 are not required to attend any further certification clinics.
All coaches must reach Level 4 by their ninth (9) year of coaching with the exception of coaches of tournament bound teams as noted below.
Tournament Bound Teams - for coaches of Tier I or Tier II national tournament bound 14U, 16U, 18U/19U teams, a Level 4 certification must be reached by their fourth (4) year of coaching. This means any coach who was certified at any level during the 2008-2009 season must obtain a Level 4 certification by December 31, 2011 if they are coaching a national tournament bound team in any of the age classifications mentioned above. This requirement applies to both the head and assistant coaches.
In addition to the clinic requirements, coaches must complete an age specific online training module for each level of play they are coaching by December 31. This requirement applies to all coaches and all levels, 1 through 5. Coaches may complete more than one module each season, however, can only register for one module at a time. A coach will have 30 days from the time of registration to complete that module. The launch schedule for the age specific modules is as follows:
8 & Under - September 6
10 & Under - September 13
12 & Under - September 20
14 & Under, 16/18/19 & Under - September 27
