Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Matt Cunningham began working at USA Hockey in October 2009 and today serves as manager of the coaching education program. In this position, he prepares, updates and creates CEP materials in conjunction with USA Hockey’s American Development Model and principles of long-term athlete development.
Cunningham is also involved as a coach and instructor, having assisted with USA Hockey’s regional and national player development camps, as well as taking part in a 16-day coaching education immersion in Europe with the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation in 2015.
Off the ice, Cunningham is a certified yoga instructor and a two-time Ironman Triathlon finisher.
As a player, Cunningham skated with the Notre Dame Hounds in Saskatchewan before playing collegiately at Minnesota State University, Mankato (then known as Mankato State University) in the late 1990s. After college, the 6-foot-4 defenseman played professional hockey with Lubbock and Amarillo in the Western Professional Hockey League and the Central Hockey League.
