After winning the 12U division last year, the 2008 Lady Ducks 12U battled to a 0-1-2 record in the Nationals just missing a quarterfinal berth as a result of the 2 ties against strong Buffalo Bisons and East Coast Wizards teams. Like all but one division, Assabet went on to win the 12U championship this year, playing in an epic final contest that went to the 8th period of OT before they overcame the challenge of Team Pittsburgh. The 14U Lady Ducks powered through the inital round 3-0 with wins over Ohio Phantoms, Mass Spitfires and Syracuse Stars. In the Quarterfinals, the 14U team beat Quaker Girls 5-1, to set up a semifinal clash with Assabet Valley. In the semifinal, Assabet took a lead late in the first period, then they went up 2-0 before the Ducks answered with a goal also in the second period by Emma Tani. That was the end of the scoring eliminating the Ducks team; Assabet then went onto win the final in a close contest winning in extra time against the Little Caesars. 16U LA Selects also performed strongly in the preliminary round beating Team Pittsburgh and Troy Albany Ice cats. Despite a close loss to Shattuck St Mary, the 16U LA Select went through to the quarterfinals to play the Polar Bears. The elimination game was scoreless through 2 periods before LA went ahead 1-0, 4.52 into the 3rd period. Later in the period with just a few minutes to go, the Polar Bears were able to tie up the game on a powerplay. As a result, the game went into overtime, the Polar Bears getting the game winner 9 minutes in. Assabet later beat the Polar Bears in the final 2-0 to repeat as champions in the 16U division. In the 19U division, California Wave faced a tough draw losing against last years champion Shattucks team and North Buffalo Bisons. An overtime tie against Ohio Phantom Flames was not enough to progress to the quarterfinals, in which all three of the Wave's opponents moved on. The winners of the 19U division was eventually Chicago Mission, the only division not won by Assabet this year after only a single final appearance last year for the perennial winnners. Thank you to all of our teams representing the Pacific District this year, and good luck to everyone for next season. |
