Men's Team -- Day 13

Team USA practiced this morning at the Gangneung Hockey Centre practice rink. The team did not learn until just before midnight last night of their final assigned practice time and game schedule for the qualification round.

The U.S. practice lasted just about an hour in preparation for tomorrow’s game against Slovakia. It will be the second meeting between the two teams in four days, with the winner taking on the Czech Republic on Feb. 21 in quarterfinal round play.

About half of Team USA’s players talked to media in the mixed zone after the practice, along with head coach Tony Granato.

Some of the players and staff attended the U.S. women’s semifinal matchup against Finland, which the U.S. won by a 5-0 count to advance to the gold-medal game.

Team USA met in the early evening, followed by a team dinner.

Women's Team -- Day 17

The U.S. was back on the ice today for its semifinal match-up against team Finland and came out victorious. The U.S. defeated Finland for the second time in the tournament, this time 5-0.

Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) netted two goals and added an assist, and 10 more U.S. players got on the score sheet in today’s 5-0 semifinal win over Finland. Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) earned her first-ever Olympic shutout, stopping all 14 shots she faced.

TAKE FIVE: Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.)

Earliest Hockey Memory: At learn-to-skate with my brother, I remember wearing a mouthguard and hating it so I cried and got off the ice. But my mom said if I stopped then I wouldn’t be able to do it again so I sucked it up. I think once I made my first pass I was hooked.

Nutrition Plan:
-Sample Breakfast: 4 eggs, tomato slices, 1 avocado, protein smoothie
-Sample Lunch: Salad with protein, usually chicken with Greek yogurt
-Sample Dinner: Chicken, steak, fish, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, salad sometimes mix in pasta depending on the day
-Sample Snacks: Hard-boiled eggs, Greek yogurt, carrots hummus, avocado and toast, almond butter and banana

Best Piece of Advice She’s Received: From my mom: “The cream always rises to the top." From when I was 10 years old, she continually says it to remind me if you work hard and you are a good person and good leader, then things will always end in your favor.

Olympic Role Model: Julie Chu: She is a huge reason why I am still playing today.

Advice for Young Hockey Players: Love what you do and have fun.
