U.S. Natl Sled Team Named Best of December Finalist for Team USA Awards

Team USA opened international play with an unprecedented fourth-straight WSHC title

The United States Olympic Committee announced today that the U.S. National Sled Hockey team has been named a Best of December finalist for the Team USA Awards, which recognize the outstanding achievements of Team USA athletes from last month. Fans are invited to vote for their favorite athletes and teams at TeamUSA.org/Awards through midnight Tuesday, Jan. 9.

About the U.S. Sled Team

Last month, the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team claimed an unprecedented fourth-straight World Sled Hockey Challenge title at this year’s tournament in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The tournament started with preliminary round victories over Korea (8-0), Italy (10-0) and Canada (5-2). After edging Italy (6-1) in the semifinals, the U.S. met Canada in the championship game for the third straight WSHC where it defeated the host by a 3-2 count. The title gave the United States a record sixth title in the event.

Leading the U.S. on the scoresheet were forwards Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) and Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) who shared the tournament-lead in goals scored (6). Farmer paced all skaters with 13 points and seven assists while Roybal finished second overall with in both categories with 12 points and six assists.

The United States, which named its 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team on Jan. 1, will travel to Turin, Italy, for the Turin 2018 Para Ice Hockey International Tournament from Jan. 22-28. The team will also take part in a Border Series versus Canada from Feb. 7-11 in Buffalo, New York, and Port Colborne, Ontario.
