Eight Players Score in U18s 8-5 Win at Youngstown

Eight different players scored for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in its 8-5 victory against the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday evening at the Covelli Centre.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Eight different players scored for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in its 8-5 victory against the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday evening at the Covelli Centre.

Jack DeBoer (Madison, N.J.), Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) led the way with a goal and an assist each.

In total, 13 different players registered goals between the U18s and Phantoms.

With the win, the U18s now stand at 11-5-0-2-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL-T) on the season. Coupled with the U17s 6-2 loss to Chicago, the combined Team USA is 7-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and sits tied for third in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) opened the scoring for the U18s at the 7:02 mark of the first period off a feed from DJ King (Northport, N.Y.). Wahlstrom earned a secondary assist on the game’s opening tally.

Following a tying-goal by Youngstown at the 11:07 mark, Ty Emberson (Eau Claire, Wis.) scored 1:59 later to regain the lead for Team USA.  K’Andre Miller (Minnetonka, Minn.) and DeBoer earned assists on the goal.

Youngstown tied the game once again at the 16:58 mark but DeBoer (18:27) and Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) (18:54) scored late in the first period to give the U18s a 4-2 lead heading into the first intermission.

Adam Samuelsson (San Diego, Calif.) and Wahlstrom extended the U18s lead to 6-2 in the first 3:30 of the second period off a power play goal and short handed tally respectively.

Youngstown would answer back with two goals in the next three minutes but the U18s finished the period with tallies by Pivonka and Janicke to take a 8-4 lead into the third period.

Youngstown added its final tally at the 4:25 mark of the third period to bring the score to its final of 8-5.

Both teams went 2-6 on the power play.
