USA Hockey Announces Staff Hires in Plymouth

Small, Lind and Williams added join staff in Plymouth

SMALL HIRED AS MARKETING OPERATIONS MANAGER

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Connor Small (Normal, Ill.) has been named manager of marketing operations for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and USA Hockey Arena, it was announced today by USA Hockey.

Small, who has spent the past year as director of game operations for the Bloomington Thunder of the USHL, will oversee marketing operations related to sponsorship and fan experience, both on-site and in the community for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and USA Hockey Arena.

With the Thunder, Small was responsible for hiring and managing game day interns as well as writing and executing the game day script. Prior to working with the Thunder, he also served as a media relations intern for the IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland, where he produced videos for IIHF social channels.

In addition, Small also spent time with the Chicago Bears where he coordinated national anthem singers and served as a game day customer service representative.

A 2017 graduate of Illinois State University, Small earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.

LIND TABBED AS NTDP INTERN ASSISTANT COACH

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Kevin Lind (Homer Glen, Ill.) will serve as intern assistant coach for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in 2017-18 it was announced today.

Lind will be part of the U.S. National Under-17 Team coaching staff.

He spent the 2016-17 season as an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame and previous to that was an assistant coach for the for the Chicago Hawks Hockey Club’s Under-15 and Under-16 teams for a season.

Lind has also served as a camp counselor for the Notre Dame Hockey Camp and the Pro Ambitions Hockey Camp.

Lind is a 2014 graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he played four seasons of ice hockey for the Fighting Irish (2011-2014). In April 2017 he became the first person in Notre Dame hockey history to reach the Frozen Four as both a player (2011) and a coach. He also played for Team USA in the 2009 World Junior A Challenge and the 2009 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

WILLIAMS NAMED BRENDAN BURKE INTERN

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Matthew Williams (Rochester Hills, Mich.) has been named the eighth recipient of the Brendan Burke Internship, it was announced today by USA Hockey.

Williams is based at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program out of USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.

His responsibilities will include interfacing with the NTDP, national teams, international events and player development camps. He will also gain exposure to USA Hockey's acclaimed American Development Model and Coaching Education Program.

Williams graduated in June from Western Michigan University with a degree in business management. While at Western Michigan, Williams served as head statistician and assistant director of hockey operations where he dealt with scheduling, advanced statistics and assisted the coaching staff.

The Michigan native also served as the operations manager for Eastside Elite Hockey and was on the coaching staff with the Topeka Roadrunners and Johnstown Tomahawks of the NAHL.

Established in April 2010, the Brendan Burke Internship is awarded annually to a recent college graduate who is pursuing a career in hockey operations. The internship was founded in memory of the late Brendan Burke, who served as a student assistant for the Miami University men’s ice hockey team and was tragically killed in a car accident on snowy roads at the age of 21 on Feb. 5, 2010.

College), Ryan Breen (North Falmouth, Mass./Providence College), Stephen Greenberg (West Tisbury, Mass./Boston College) and Cole Burkhalter (Knoxville, Tenn./Canisius College).
