SPISSKA NOVA VES, Slovakia - Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) scored twice for the U.S. National Men’s Under-18 Team to lead Team USA in a 5-2 victory against Finland on Monday afternoon at ZS Spisska Nova Ves. This game marked the final pre-tournament exhibition match before the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men’s World Championship begins on Thursday (April 13).

Finland struck first by capitalizing on a offensive zone draw win and rebound opportunity at the 4:01 mark of the first period.

Tkachuk answered back for Team USA a little over five minutes later when he tipped in a slap pass from David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.).

Finland scored a few minutes later to take a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Tkachuk scored his second of the night to tied the game at the 4:35 mark of the second period. Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) and Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) recorded assists on the game-tying tally.

Team USA took the 3-2 lead less than two minutes later when Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) scored on a rush play after taking a feed from Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.).

The next Team USA goal came a little over a minute later when Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) caught a saucer pass from Tommy Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and skated to the right corner of the Finland zone and fired a pass to a streaking Ryan Poehling (Lakeville, Minn.) who one-timed a shot past the Team Finland goaltender.

Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) added a tally in the third period to give Team USA a 5-2 victory.

Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) started in net for Team USA and played the first two periods, making 21 saves on 23 shots. Cayden Primeau (Voorhees, N.J.) saw his first action with the U18s, stopping all seven shots he faced in the third period.

Team USA opens their preliminary round with a matchup against Belarus on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. ET) at ZS Spisska Nova Ves.
