U18s Close USHL Schedule; U17s on Road in Fargo

NTDP Notebook Week of March 27-April 2

With the IIHF Women’s World Championship coming to USA Hockey Arena, the U17s and U18s are on the road this week. The U17s travel to North Dakota as they face the Fargo Force on Friday (March 31) and Saturday (April 1) at 8:05 p.m. ET at Scheels Arena. The U18s finish their USHL season against the cross-state rival, the Muskegon. The U18s take on the Lumberjacks at 7:15 p.m. ET at L.C. Walker Arena.

Last Friday, the U17s fell to the Bloomington Thunder at USA Hockey Arena (March 24, 3-1). They look to get back on the winning track as they face Fargo this weekend and Youngstown the following weekend to conclude their season.

The U18s are looking to stay hot in USHL action in their matchup with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The U18s are coming off a 6-0 win against the Thunder last Saturday. With that victory, the U18s have secured wins in six of their last seven games.

STEALING THE FORCE: The U17s look to steal the force against Fargo as they travel to North Dakota for a two game series. This will be the first meeting of the season for the two teams.

Fargo sits at 32-28-4-1 on the season.

Fargo has three players in the top ten for overall points in the USHL. Jack Adams from the Force is leading the USHL with 32 goals scored. Blake Lizotte stands alone in second for assists in the USHL with 43 on the season. Matthew Murray leads the Force between the pipes with a 2.35 goals-against-average, and a record of 27-14-2-1. Murray is tied for seconds in overall wins as a goaltender.

CHOPPING LUMBER: The U18s are on the road looking to end their USHL season on a high note. They face the Muskegon Lumberjacks at L.C. Walker Arena. The two teams last played in a Thanksgiving Eve matchup on November 23. The U18s earned an 8-5 victory that night at USA Hockey Arena. The season series between the two is knotted at one as Muskegon won 2-1 earlier in the season on October 1st.

Muskegon sits at 25-14-2-3 on the season.

In the last meeting, the U.S. won 8-5. Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) had five assists; Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) has two power-play goals and an assist. Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) had two goals as well and Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) saved 27 of 32 shots. Muskegon’s Andrei Svechnikov had a goal and two assists during the game while Bo Hanson had a goal and assist.

Notes

MISMASH POINT-STREAK: U18s Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) extended his USHL game point streak to 14 games, which started on December 31. During the streak, Mismash’s USHL stats are (8-13-21) with a plus-minus of +14.

KELLER TO ARIZONA: NTDP Alum Clayton Keller (Chesterfield, MO. /2014-16) signed an entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes this past Sunday. (March 26) Keller led Boston University in scoring while his overall stats were 21-24-45 in 31 games this season. Keller made his professional debut Monday night (March 27) is his hometown with the Arizona Coyotes.

CALDER TROPHY: NTDP alum Auston Matthews (2013-15/Toronto Maple Leafs) is in contention for the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Top Rookie. Matthews currently has 56 points (32-24-56) in 70 games played this season, and last night broke a Maple Leafs rookie record with 35 goals in one season.

FROZEN FOUR: The NTDP has at least one alumnus from each of the teams representing their college in the Frozen Four. There are a total of 12 alumni from the NTDP that will be facing off for the National Championship on March 6.

WHITE INKED: Former NTDP and Boston College forward Colin White (2013-15/Ottawa Senators) inked an amateur tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators, part of the Ottawa Senators organization, this week. White spent the past two years with Eagles, registering 76 points (35-41-76) in 72 games.
