U18s Take Down Dubuque, 5-2

Norris and Barratt tally two points each in 5-2 victory

The U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Dubuque Fighting Saints 5-2 Friday night at USA Hockey Arena.

After Dubuque opened the scoring at 7:36 of the first period, the U18s responded with two quick goals from Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) and Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.).

Barratt put the puck in the back of the net to even the score at one at 12:36 of the first period after Tyler Inamoto (Barrington, Ill.) sent it to the net from the top of the slot.

Team USA took their first lead of the game at 14:01 of the first period after Tkachuk backhanded Oliver Wahlstrom’s (Quincy, Mass.) rebound past Dubuque goaltender, Jaxon Castor. Jake Wise (North Andover, Mass.) also picked up an assist on the goal.

Dubuque tied the game once again on the power play at 14:42 of the first period.

At 3:31 of the second period Nate Knoepke (Farmington, Minn.) put the U18s back on top sending the puck blocker side. Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) and Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) picked up assists on the play.

Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) solidified the U.S.’s lead at 19:20 of the second period, redirecting a Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) shot. Barratt picked up his second point of the night with a secondary assist.

Norris extended the U18s lead at 17:53 of the third period burying a rebound and picking up his second point of the game. Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) had the lone assist on the goal.

Team USA’s Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) ended the game with 17 saves while Dubuque’s Jaxon Castor finished with 27 saves.
