Joel Farabee scored the game-winner with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) extended his USHL-leading point streak to eight games as the U.S. National Under-18 Team topped to the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-3.

Team USA thought they opened the scoring with just over six minutes left in the first period when Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) knocked the puck in off the back of Waterloo’s goaltender, Peter Thome. The goal was waved off though due to a USA high stick. The first period ended in a scoreless tie.

The Black Hawks then opened the scoring at 7:48 of the second period when Nick Swaney sent the puck top corner.

Waterloo extended their lead at 9:28 of the second period on a shot from the left point.  Three minutes later at the 12:38 mark, the Blackhawks scored their third goal of the period.

With just 22 seconds left in the second period, Mismash skated the puck into the slot and sent a wrister past the glove of Waterloo’s Thome. Mismash has seven goals and five assists in his last eight USHL games.

Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) put the U18s within one at 7:48 of the third period sending the puck around the Black Hawks’ Thome that was pulled out of position. Slaggert picked up the lone assist on the goal.

At 14:21 of the third period Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) tied the game on the power play after redirecting a David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.) shot from the point. Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) also had an assist.

With 9.7 seconds left in the game Farabee put home a rebound to win the game 4-3 for the U18s. Mismash picked up his second point of the night with an assist. Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) also picked up an assist on the game-winner.

Team USA’s Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) ended the night with 22 saves while Waterloo’s Thome recorded 22 saves.
