Intern, Hockey Operations (May 2017-August 2017)

Support day-to-day operations and general responsibilities of the Women’s Hockey Department

BASIC FUNCTION: Support day-to-day operations and general responsibilities of the Women’s Hockey Department.

The Women’s Hockey Department within USA Hockey oversees the following areas:

  • U.S. Women’s National Team Program and events (all associated tournaments and camps including IIHF Women’s World Championships, training camps, and evaluation camps)
  • U.S. Women’s Under-18 National Team (all associated tournaments and camps)
  • Scouting and evaluation of the Women’s National Team and Under-18 Women’s Programs
  • Plans and executes USA Hockey’s Girls Player Development Camps (15, U18, and U18 Select)
  • Supports USAH Girls/Women’s Section initiatives to promote and grow the sport. Assists with planning tryouts and camps at the district and affiliate levels
  • Supports membership development opportunities specific to getting more girls in the sport (Examples – Try Hockey For Free Day and World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend)
  • Connects with USA Hockey Women’s National Team Alumni (former National Team and Olympic Players)
  • Supports initiatives within the Coaching Education Program (Coaching Symposiums around NCAA Women’s Frozen Four, World Championships, etc.)
  • Collaborates with IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) to help grow the skill level of our game on an international front (High Performance Camps, Mentor Programs, etc.)
  • Special projects associated with promoting, growing, and advancing the game for female athletes and generating greater exposure and awareness about USAH programs
  • Partners with USOC to leverage resources and programs that support Women’s National Team efforts

SUMMER INTERN -- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The summer intern will be asked to assist with projects and assignments associated with the areas of responsibility listed above. Some specific assignments that fall within the Summer Internship are:

  • Provide administrative support on projects related to the Women’s National Team Program and events that take place between May 2017-August 2017, including the Women’s National Team Selection Camp, Women’s National Festival, and Women’s Under-18 Series
  • Support the Women’s Hockey Department with all programming related to the 2017 Girls Player Development Camps (15, U18, U18 Select) and Goalie Development Camp
  • Assist with logistics for all summer programs and events within the Women’s Hockey Department and Women’s National Team Program
  • Support initiatives related to current and former Olympians and National Team members
  • Provide support with research and statistical projects as directed by the Women’s Hockey Department Staff
  • Communicate effectively with USA Hockey members and volunteers
  • Assist with compiling content for USA Hockey’s Annual Congress (June 2017)
  • Responsible for creating and updating the apparel inventory for the Women’s Hockey Department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude
  • Strong work ethic
  • Results oriented
  • Experience and understanding of non-profit, volunteer organizations preferred
  • Playing and/or coaching experience in the sport of hockey preferred
  • Must be comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work with volunteers and senior staff
  • Strong computer skills essential with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, JotForms, and XOS ThunderCloud preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

COMPENSATION: This is a paid internship and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

LOCATION: This internship is based out of USA Hockey’s National Office in Colorado Springs, CO with potential for travel and on-site responsibilities at summer camps and events as determined by the Women’s Hockey Department Staff.
