Team USA Falls to Canada, 1-0, in OT at IIHF U18 Women's Worlds

U.S. Finishes Preliminary Round and Advances to Semifinal Round on Friday

ZLIN, Czech Republic – Alex Gulstene (Evanston, Ill.) stopped 29 of 30 shots she faced as the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team fell to Canada, 1-0, in overtime here today at PSG Arena at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women's World Championship.

“We battled hard and played well against a tough opponent,” said Joel Johnson, head coach of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team. “It was a great game that could have gone either way. We've earned our way to the semifinal game and will continue our mission and get ready for our next opponent."

Both teams exchanged scoring chances for three periods and into overtime before Ashton Bell beat Gulstene at 1:57 with a wrist shot on a three on one rush.

The U.S. finished the preliminary round in second place in Group A with a 2-0-1-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record to advance directly to the semifinal round on Friday (January 13) at 10 a.m. ET. The U.S. opponent will be determined following the quarterfinal games tomorrow (January 11). A live stream of the game will be available here.
