Team USA Opens Tournament vs Sweden Nov. 1

The U.S. Women’s National Team has been hard at work this week in East Meadow, New York as it prepares for the upcoming Four Nations Cup. The schedule has included a few days with multiple on-ice sessions as the team readies to face Sweden (November 1), Finland (November 2) and rival Canada (November 4) in the preliminary games of the annual international event.

During their time at the Northwell Health Center, practice home of the NHL’s New York Islanders, the players have been active with on ice practices and off-ice training, while making their mark and getting involved with the local community.

“As a core value of this group, it’s always important that we represent the U.S. with the highest regard and help promote the women’s game and our amazing players in the local communities where we train,” said Reagan Carey, general manager of the U.S. Women’s National Team. “The players on our team were impacted by those that came before them like Cammi Granato, Angela Ruggiero, Karyn Bye and many more. We hope to have that same impact with the future generation of players.”

This past Sunday, the the Islanders hosted the USWNT at their game against the Minnesota Wild. The players took part in several activities throughout the game while Hilary Knight and Monique Lamoureux-Morando took over the team’s social media accounts during the game.

Later in the week, the team met up with Jack Capuano, the Islanders coach, and took part in meeting local fans and interacting in clinics with the local youth hockey community.

Perhaps one day, one of these young players will talk about the time that the 2016 U.S. Women’s National Team came to their rink and inspired them to be an Olympian.
