Philadelphia to Host 2016 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction

Event Set for Nov. 30

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the first time ever, Philadelphia will be the site of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Celebration, it was announced today by USA Hockey. In cooperation with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association, an affiliate of USA Hockey, the 2016 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Celebration is set for Nov. 30 in the City of Brotherly Love.

The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2016, which includes Bill Belisle, Craig Janney and the 1996 U.S. World Cup of Hockey Team, will be formally enshrined at the event.

“We’re excited to bring the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Celebration to Philadelphia,” saidDave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. “It’s one of our nation’s very top hockey cities, thanks in large part to the decades-long efforts of the late Ed Snider, and fans in the area will enjoy being part of enshrining the Class of 2016. This is always one of the most anticipated events on the calendar each year and we’re grateful for the advance support we’ve received from the Flyers and our Atlantic Affiliate.”

Ticket information and the exact location and time of the Induction Celebration will be released next month.

NOTES: The Lester Patrick Trophy and Wayne Gretzky International Award recipients will also be honored as part of the 2016 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Celebration … The 1996 U.S. World Cup of Hockey Team played the very first sporting event in the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia (then called CoreStates Center) on Aug. 31, 1996, where it defeated Canada by a 5-3 count in its first pool play contest of the 1996 World Cup of Hockey Tournament. Team USA went on to win the event … USA Hockey assumed responsibilities for the selection process and induction event associated with the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame 10 years ago and has shared the Induction Celebration with communities across America, including Grand Forks, North Dakota, Denver, Chicago, Buffalo, New York, Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit … The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame enshrined its first class in 1973.
