GAMEDAY: U.S. Faces Canada in Opening Game of U22 Series

The U.S. and Canada are meeting today at 7:30 p.m. MT at the Markin MacPhail Centre for the opener of the 2016 Women's Under-22 Series.  It is the twelfth time the series has been held and Team USA holds a 12-3-3-13-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time record against Canada.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: Annie Pankowski is serving as team captain and the alternate captain is Megan Keller. It is the first time that Pankowski has served as team captain for Team USA.

GOLDEN GIRLS: The U.S. roster features two players who helped the 2016 U.S. Women's National Team earn a gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in Kamloops, British Columbia. Those players are Megan Keller and Annie Pankowski. Rebecca Gilmore, Patricia Marshall, and Alex Woken helped the 2016 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team earn a gold medal at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario.

LEADING THE WAY: Bob Deraney is the head coach and he is assisted by Robb Stauber, Brett Strot, and Chris Tamer.

FIRST IMPRESSION: Kelsey Koelzer and Makenna Newkirk will be making their first career appearances in a Team USA sweater.

MAKING A STATEMENT: The 22 players represent 13 different states. Minnesota leads the pack with six representatives followed by Massachusetts with five and New York with two. Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin each have one representative.

TEAM BUILDING: USA Hockey announced the 22-player roster for the U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team on Aug. 14. The team was selected following the USA Hockey Women’s National Festival, held August 8-12 at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.
