The Devil is in the Detail: All of the goaltenders attending this week’s camp took in a presentation Sunday by former NHL netminders and current goaltending coaches within the New Jersey Devils organization, Chris Terreri and Scott Clemmensen.

Terreri appeared in more than 400 NHL games from 1986-2001, a majority of which came in a Devils uniform and included a pair of Stanley Cups (1995 and 2000). The Providence, Rhode Island, native was also a member of the 1988 United States Olympic Team and represented the U.S. in four IIHF World Championships (1985-87, 1997). Since his retirement, Terreri has remained with New Jersey in a coaching capacity, beginning in the AHL (Lowell/Albany) until assuming his current role as the NHL club’s goaltending coach in 2010. Over this time, Terreri has worked with an extensive contingent of netminders, most notably Martin Brodeur and Cory Schneider.

Clemmensen, an Iowa native, just completed his first season as a goaltending development coach with the Devils organization following a 14-year professional playing career. In this role, Clemmensen works primarily with the goaltenders from the team’s AHL affiliate (Albany) as well as prospects in other professional and junior leagues. The former Des Moines Buccaneers and Boston College goaltender saw action in 191 career NHL games with New Jersey, Toronto and Florida, while also suiting up for the U.S. at the 2010 IIHF World Championship.

Royal Pitches Shutout: The first shutout victory of the week came in Sunday’s opening game, with Royal blanking White by a score of 4-0. Brannon McManus (Newport Beach, Calif. / 2G, 1A) and Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn. / 1G, 1A) both put forth multi-point efforts, while goaltenders Mitchell Gibson (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Ryan McInchak (Brownstown, Mich.) combined to turn aside all 16 shots faced.

Putting a Spin on the Family Trend: Jesse Bjugstad (Stillwater, Minn. / Team Forest) is the son of former NHLer, Scott Bjugstad. The Bjugstad family lineage within the NHL doesn’t stop there, however, as Jesse is also the cousin of current Florida Panthers centerman, Nick Bjugstad. Having seen his father and cousin succeed at the forward position, one might assume that the youngest Bjugstad would be naturally inclined to do so as well; however, Jesse has opted to go in a different direction and make his way as a defenseman.

Red Combination Finds Chemistry: Red’s trio of Christian Lesueur (Greenwich, Conn. / 3G), Erik Urbank (Lake View, New York / 2A) and Ethan Destefani (Bedford, New Hampshire / 2G, 2A) collectively produced nine points in the club’s 7-1 win over Columbia on Sunday.
