U.S. Schedule for 2017 World Junior Championship

Team USA to open tournament against Latvia on Dec. 26

The International Ice Hockey Federation today announced the schedule for the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will take place Dec. 26, 2016 - Jan. 5, 2017, in Montreal and Toronto, Canada. The U.S., which claimed the bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland, was placed in Group B alongside Canada, Latvia, Russia, and Slovakia.

Team USA will begin preliminary-round play against Latvia on Dec. 26 and have a day off before back-to-back games against Slovakia on Dec. 28 and Russia on Dec. 29. The U.S. will then close its preliminary-round action against Canada on Dec. 31. All four of Team USA's preliminary round games will be played at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

The quarterfinal round is scheduled for Jan. 2 and the semifinals will take place on Jan. 4. The bronze-medal and gold-medal games will be held on Jan. 5. All semifinal and medal games will be played at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

NHL Network is the exclusive U.S. TV home of the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship and will broadcast every U.S. game live during the tournament.

Slovakia

Last Meeting: The U.S. and Slovakia met in the preliminary round of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, where the U.S. earned a 3-0 shutout.

Russia

Last Meeting: Team USA met Russia in the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship semifinal, where Russia edged the U.S., 2-1.
