Grant Mismash Nets Two, 12 Players Record at Least One Point

DAWSON CREEK, British Columbia - Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) tallied two markers as the U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated Canada White, 7-5, in its second preliminary-round contest of the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. With the victory, the United States improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Team USA struck first after Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) forced a turnover in the Canadian zone. Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) took the puck and snapped the initial shot with Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) capitalizing on the rebound in the slot area at 3:04 of the period. Just a 1:08 later, Canada notched the equalizer.

At 6:32 of the frame, Barratt shoveled the puck out of the right offensive corner and across the slot to Mismash, who was driving the net and made it 2-1.

Past the midway point of the period, with Canada White on the power play, Joey Cassetti (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Randy Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) broke out on a 2-on-0 rush. Cassetti sent the puck through the crease for a pass but it hit the goaltender and went in to give Team USA a two-goal lead.

Mismash picked up his second goal trailing a Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) breakaway chance. Canada closed out period scoring with 36 seconds on the clock to slice the U.S. lead in half, 4-2.

In the second period, Canada White pulled within a goal at 6:34 of the stanza. The U.S. answered at 11:31 when Hernandez, stationed in front of the net, tipped a Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) point shot, giving the U.S. another two-goal advantage.

In the final four minutes of the frame, Team USA notched its lone power-play goal when Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) patiently outwaited the goaltender, lifting the puck up over the netminder's shoulder for the 6-3 lead.

In the third period, Canada rallied with two goals in the latter half of the frame to make it 6-5. However, Team USA sealed the deal when Barratt potted an empty-netter with six seconds on the clock for the 7-5 final score.

U.S. goaltender Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) stopped 24-of-29 shots he faced in the victory.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team finishes preliminary-round play tomorrow (Nov. 3) against Canada Black. Puck drop is slated for 9 p.m. ET. Live statistics and streaming can be found here.
