Team USA and Canada to Complete Series at 6 p.m. ET Tomorrow

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Despite outshooting its opponent, 29-17, the U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team fell to Canada, 2-1, here today in the second game of the 2015 Under-22 Series.

The two teams are set to face off again at 6 p.m. ET tomorrow (Aug. 22) at the Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York. The U.S. and Canada will head into the third and final game of the series with one win apiece.

"The girls fought hard out there and put a lot of pucks on net but we came up short," said Ken Klee, head coach of the U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team. "It was tough giving up the late goal but it sets up well for a deciding game tomorrow."

After a scoreless first period, Team USA started the second stanza with 1:28 of power play time, but Canada didn’t allow the U.S. a chance to convert. The Canadians applied pressure early in the period, but U.S. goaltender Nicole Hensley (Lakewood, Colo.) made big back-to-back stops to keep the score knotted 0-0.

Renata Fast put Canada on the board with a wrist shot from the point that made its way through traffic at 11:43 of the second period to put the U.S. behind 1-0 heading into the third period.

At 15:28 of the third stanza, the U.S. and Canada each received a roughing penalty. Just :19 into the four-on-four, Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.) fought for a loose puck in the corner and sent it to Sydney Baldwin (Albany, N.Y.), who caught the pass, took a stride and fired it.

With 1:07 to play, Sarah Potomak sealed the game-winning goal for Canada with a power-play marker.
