Tell us how does your kid’s coach keep bench athletes engaged in the sport

For many athletes, time on the bench and not in the game can be difficult.  While the reasons can vary – injury, disappointing performance, playing behind an upperclassman, or just learning the sport – players on the bench can experience a range of emotions that lead to feeling disengaged or disheartened. And unfortunately, lack of playing time is one of the biggest reasons kids drop out of sports.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Play Positive® asks you, how does your kid’s coach keep bench athletes engaged in the sport?

Keeping athletes engaged in the game and invested in the team benefits the individual and builds team unity as a whole.

To learn how players on the bench can practice good sportsmanship and how coaches and parents can reinforce the message, read the Liberty Mutual Insurance Play Positive® article “Sportsmanship from the Bench.”

Athletes on the bench might not be playing, but they can still be an integral part of the team. Coaches and athletes can learn how to keep athletes involved in “Four Ways to Involve Bench Players” from Liberty Mutual Insurance Play Positive®.

The Liberty Mutual Insurance Play Positive® program promotes good sportsmanship in youth sports so that our kids can have the fun and positive experience they deserve.  We believe kids can learn valuable life lessons when coaches and parents come together to support doing the right thing on and off the ice.
