Placement Game Next for Team USA Tomorrow

TAMPERE, Finland — Despite a 33-18 shot-on-goal advantage, the U.S. National Inline Team fell to Sweden, 5-2, here today in quarterfinal action at the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Inline Hockey World Championship.

The U.S. will play Slovenia in a placement game at 9 a.m. ET tomorrow (July 10).

“It was a tough game,” said Joe Cook, head coach of the 2015 U.S. National Inline Team. “We came out flying in the second half but couldn’t finish our scoring chances. Obviously, we are extremely disappointed with the result.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Matt White (Whittier, Calif.) fed Derrick Burnett (Corona, Calif.) from behind the net, and Burnett converted to open the scoring for Team USA at 11:07 of the second stanza. Sweden, however, would get the next three goals and led, 3-1, at halftime.

Team USA pulled within one with 7:33 remaining in the third quarter when Nielsson Arcibal (Vista, Calif.) got his stick on a loose puck in front of the Sweden net and poked it past goaltender Ludvig Engsund.

U.S. netminder Troy Redmann (Brea, Calif.), who made 16 saves in the game, was pulled in the final two minutes for an extra attacker, but Sweden scored twice into an empty net to account for the 5-2 final.
