TAMPERE, Finland — Six different players scored for the U.S., including two goals from Nathan Sigmund (San Diego, Calif.), to help the U.S. National Inline Team to a 7-3 victory against Germany in its opening preliminary round game of the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Inline Hockey World Championship.

“We played strong,” said Joe Cook, head coach of the 2015 U.S. National Inline Team. “We’re still working out the kinks a little bit, but overall we’re pleased with the victory. We will make the necessary adjustments in the morning and move on to our game against Slovakia.”

Tyler Spezia (Clinton Township, Mich.) opened the scoring 6:44 into the first quarter to give the U.S. a lead it would never relinquish. Minutes later, Pat Cannone (Bayport, N.Y.) doubled the lead when he skated in on net and slipped the puck past German netminder Thomas Ower.

A productive second period included three more goals for the United States with Travis Noe (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Sigmund and Matt White (Whittier, Calif.), all scoring. Germany also scored twice, but the U.S. had a 5-2 lead at halftime.

David Makowski (Wildwood, Mo.) scored the lone goal of the third quarter with a wrist shot from the slot after a backhanded pass from Noe.

Germany closed the gap to 6-3 with a power play goal 3:48 into the final quarter, but could get no closer. The U.S. closed out the scoring with :36 remaining when Sigmund tallied his second goal of the contest.

Troy Redmann (Brea, Calif.) picked up in the win in the U.S. net with a 16-save performance.

Team USA will face Slovakia tomorrow (July 6) at 9 a.m. ET. Live streaming of all games from the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship games can be found here.
