The United States faces Canada today at HARBORCENTER (capacity: 1,800) in the gold-medal game of the 2015 International Paralympic Committee Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships. Team USA has won all four meetings against Canada this season, outscoring them 9-1, including three shutouts.

Goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) will start in goal for the U.S. On the season, he is 11-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) with a 0.49 GAA, 0.95 SV%, and seven shutouts in 460 minutes of play. Between the Paralympic Winter Games and IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships, this is Cash’s sixth straight gold-medal game for the U.S.

CASH IN GOLD-MEDAL GAMES
2009 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships: W, 1-0
2010 Paralympic Winter Games: W, 2-0
2012 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships: W, 5-1

In the last ten meetings, Team USA has posted a 7-0- 0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against Canada, outscoring them 17-3 and shutting them out four times in that span. In world championship play, the two teams last met in the gold-medal game of the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships, which Canada won, 1-0. Since the loss, the U.S. has won seven straight games against Canada. In March, the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team hosted Canada in Indian Trail, North Carolina, for the traditional three-game series. Led by two shutouts from Cash, the U.S. swept Canada for the first time ever.

This is the fourth consecutive time the U.S. has reached the gold-medal game in the world championship. After claiming gold in 2009 (1-0, Norway) and 2012 (5-1, Korea), the U.S. fell to Canada, 0-1, in 2013. Today’s game marks the seventh straight major international tournament in which the U.S. has reached the championship game. Over the last six events, Team USA has claimed the event’s top prize four times, including the 2012 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Hamar, Norway; the 2012 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Calgary, Alberta; the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia; and the 2015 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Leduc, Alberta.
